"By mixing Brazilian with electronic music in its very own way, Drumagick has made huge waves around the globe."

WHO WE ARE

2 DJs and music producers spreading their sounds around the world!

Formed by JrDeep and Guilherme Lopes and based in Sao Paulo, they helped thru their own songs and performances, to the development of the brazilian drum and bass scene from the late 90s and to its propagation to the world in the 2000’s, bringing since then more attention of the international dance music community to Brazil, that until that period didn’t had international visibility.

After almost 20 years they're still in the game producing many records and artists in a very diverse musical landscape, from drum and bass to new fusions with jazz, brazilian and latin music, going thru broken beats till the straight beats of house music.

In 1992 JrDeep had already started to make his first little parties for friends and his neighboarhood, birthdays, folk parties from school and church, comunity parties and that was the way most of DJs started their careers in Sao Paulo by that time. Guilherme Lopes, his 4 years younger brother was not old enough to join him on it yet.

From there came different projects like a pirate radio called Alternativa FM at the south coast area of Sao Paulo state in a city called Iguape, a place well often visited by the brothers since they were born because of the many relatives they have there. The pirate radio had reached the way of an official station, being even requested to cover live the elections of the city on late 90's.

The experience on the radio was essential for the creation of Drumagick project later. In that time, from 1994 to 1996, Junior and Guilherme were responsible for every single audio piece produced for the radio station, they produced all the commercial ads, spots, jingles and soundtracks. The station were rapidly recognized in the area by its unique soundscape and quality in its transmissions.

Then in 1998, after some experiments with long time partners and after they got introduced to the Sao Paulo's drum and bass scene that was just starting to get a shape by the parties like Cool Bass by XRS and Torre do Dr. Zero by DJ Marky, the brothers created a project called Drumagick, handmade their first record of the same title and distributed a copy for each afficcionado  drum and bass fan and local DJs, after that they started to be recognized as Drumagick on every event.

After this, Drumagick released one tune after another in electronic music specialized maganizes (Beatz, DJ World, DJ Sound) and produced independent vinyl records made at the legendary Polysom factory in Rio de Janeiro until the rise of Sambaloco Records, a Trama Records electronic music label, where the brothers participated of its first release, the Sambaloco Compilation 1 with the track called Metromorfose that was also the first Drumagick track to be played outside Brazil at the radio show called Horas Funktasticas by DJ Paulo Fonseca based at the city of Porto.

Trama Records had signed Drumagick for one album term plus a few exclusive future singles. The album was called Aí Maluco and was released in an incredible open air event called Musica na Rua at Boulevard Sao Joao in Sao Paulo downtown area for thousands of people in a spetacular 4 decks performance. On the same event Dj Patife was releasing his Sounds of Drum and Bass compilation and DJ Marky was releasing his Audio Architeture compilation with both performing on the event as well.

Drumagick then started to travel around the entire country to promote their album.

A few singles came out on different Sambaloco compilations, then came EASYBOOM... An instant classic since its first audition, played by everybody even before its oficial release (this track was included on Gilles Peterson's Worldwide compilation and reached number 3 on BBC Radio1 best releases of the year) and it still sounding as fresh as in that time.

Three remixes for the acclaimed movie soundtrack City of God and a remix for Mitchell and Dewbury – Beyond The Rains were just a few of the highlights executed at BBC network after the Easy Boom breakthrough.

In December 2008 they were also nominated as release of the year for the tracks Malandragem, Baby and Dry Your Eyes, those last two tunes in collaboration with the sweeden singer Ernesto, played by international DJs like Hype at London Kiss FM, Clipz, EZ Rollers, Laurent Garnier, Marky, Makoto, Gilles Peterson, Patrick Forge, Michael Rütten (Compost Records) and much more.

Back in 2004, the second full length Drumagick’s album called Checkmate! hit the stores released by Segundo Mundo Records/Sony Music. Tracks like Checkmate!, Can U Dig It, Sambarock, Parah and Classe A made huge noise on the dance floors of many DJs in that year. The track Malandragem, also from this album, got placed on the first edition of Fifa Street video game, including its tv commercial ad soundtrack with Ronaldinho by EA Games/USA.

At the same time, after a couple of years internationally touring as 4 decks DJ act, the brothers started their Live Band tour in Europe for the first time, it was a 6 piece band playing live the original Drumagick songs with Kuki Stolarski on the drums, Jose Nigro on the bass, James Müller on percussions, a guest singer and the brothers Junior and Guilherme on the turntables, samplers, synthesizers and vocals.

Their first gig as Drumagick Live Band in Europe was at the legendary Jazz Café in London. From 2005 until 2010 Drumagick live Band spreaded their groove to excellent audiences in places like Abu Dhabi Formula 1 championship, London Koko, Manchester Academy, Post Garage, Flex Club (Austria), Watergate (Berlin), Edinburgh Usher Hall playing in collaboration with artists and bands like Zimbo Trio, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Bembe Segue, Dynamite MC, Clara Moreno, Fernanda Porto and many others.

Also in this period Drumagick has made DJ tours to release a variety of 12” vinyl singles with highlights to the remake of the classic A Night In Tunisia by Dizzy Gillespie performed by Charlie Parker, this single was released by the german label called Vinyl Vibes and got into many record boxes around the globe.

Another highlight was their own label launch tour to promote Bmr Music that includes in its catalogue artists like Clara Moreno, DJ Marky, Dynamite MC, Ernesto, XRS e Gilberto Gil, M Jazzy, Alex DB, DJ Chap, Andrezz, TC Izlam, Fernanda Porto, Mark de Clive-Lowe, Joao Sobral and more having support from Bryan Gee, Clipz, EZ Rollers, Fernanda Porto, Gilles Peterson, DJ Hype, Laurent Garnier, Makoto, Mark de Clive Lowe, Flight, Pascal, Patife, Roni Size, Towa Tei just to name a few.

The Brothers also runs two more sub-labels with distinct music genres, the Pl4yrec dedicated to house music and Batucada Records focused on brazilian music. One of the highlight is the Joao Sobral’s Vai Na Fe EP out on Batucada Records, produced by JrDeep and Guilherme Lopes that got support from many people from the United States, France, Italy, Japan and UK. The song Meio Nublado made the Gilles Peterson's Bubblers 10 compilation out by Brownswood Recordings in 2013.

Junior and Guilherme also got DJ and music production teaching experience. In 2000 they founded the Beatmasters DJ and music production school with their partners Ramilson Maia and Anibal Messa, Drumagick has left the command of the school in late 2008 to get focused in their musical career.

During this period they got thousands of students passing by Beatmasters and it was considered one of the best schools in the country, well recognized artists from today like Claudia Assef, Whebba and Dada Attack started in their classes. We can affirm that in a certain way they helped to develop an entire new generation of artists in the brazilian electronic scene by sharing their knowledge they got during their entire career.

From 2008 to 2011 they were very requested in the studio on remixes and making their own tracks. Like the Thunderballs (Washington DC) Make Your Move remix and the tracks Pra Te Alcançar (To Catch You) and Aqui Neste Lugar (Here in this Place) by Sergio Brito from the legendary Brazilian rock band called Titans and the track Soul Hit Man by the American band See-I all of them well executed by international DJs on clubs and radio shows like Laurent Garnier’s It Is What It Is radio show at Radio France.

2011 was ended by an one month DJ tour in Europe where the brothers played in places like Bratislava, Viena, Bucharest, Brasovia, Manchester and Porto playing along with artists like Les Gammas, Aphrodite, Jenna G, Riot Jazz Brass, Skittles to name a few.

Unforgetable performances were presented in 2012, such a great year for Drumagick in Europe like the Graz Spring festival where they played along side of DJ Hype and Scratch Perverts. It was an year of new experiments for the brothers too. They presented their new mixture of the straight beats of house music, the generous funky bases from drum and bass and a strong and sincopated percussion from samba thru the EP called Brazil Summer Samba Club released by Tru Thoughts.

With worldwide repercution of the sounds of this EP resulted in another job, after listening to their EP the acclaimed London based DJ Vadim invited Drumagick to remix one of his new album songs, the brothers remixed the track I’m Feeling U by Vadim featuring Greg Blackman, the remix was released by BBE Records from UK.

In the next year of Tru Thoughts Records released a new chapter of the Drumagick’s house music experiments, the Urban Landscapes EP, taking their music up to a new level. International artists like Daddy G (Massive Attack), Basement Jaxx, Danny Krivit, Marky, Wax Poetic gave their support to this EP.

Other records not less important were released in that year like the Drumagick’s remix of DJ Farrapo released by Agogo Records from Hanover/Germany, the tracks Give Yourself to Me and Racer by the Brazilian drum and bass label called Luv Disaster, two remixes for the Brazilian house music label called Dalzochio Music that reached the house music charts at Beatport and two remixes for the legendary London based hip hop Project called London Posse released by Tru Thoughts.

Invited by Patrick Forge and Chris Frank aka Da Lata, Drumagick remixed the track Deixa from Da Lata’s new album released by Agogo Records in 2014, this remix brings back the unique brazilian d&b identity that is the duo trademark and a blend that only Drumagick can deliver when it's about to mix Brazilian with electronic music.

Another incredible remix inviting just a little further, Gilles Peterson called the boys to remix one of his new tracks from the Sonzeira album Brasil Bam Bam Bam, it was released later in 2015 by Brownswood/Virgin Music UK.

2015 was a very productive period for the brothers in the studio. The big success of two releases by their own label (the Bmr Music), Brazilian DnB released later January that got massivelly executed by DJs around the world (including Friction’s radio show at BBC Radio1) and beeing one of the most played tunes on Tomorrowland’s DnB stages and Sun and Bass festivals.

Later on 2015 it was released the Sao Paulo Essential vol.2 EP by Bmr Music and the tune "Like This" was played a lot as well including a mention at Fabio and Grooverider’s radio show.

The release of the soundtracks albums by Audio Network company called Novo Brasil (means New Brazil) and the production of one more album for a 2016 Rio Olympics made their schedule very busy, but the wait for new gigs did worth it after people listened to the surprise that was the Concrete Samba album, tottaly different music concept for Drumagick.

Concrete Samba was well executed during the Rio 2016 Olympic games on TV commercial for brands like XXL United and Uber. There were also so many high quality free download tracks on Drumagick’s Soundcloud profile. People were digging it and the brothers kept delivering very good stuff for free until now.

Another great European tour happened later in 2016 to promote the release of Drumagick Presents: Endless Summer vol.1 compilation (Bmr Music), a summer compilation that brought the Brazilian summer vibes to Europe. The brothers performed in cities like Berlin, Moscow and Amsterdam to name a few.

2017 will be well remembered as the year Drumagick debuted in one of the biggest drum and bass labels of all of times. Their 3 tracks EP was released by Program/Ram Records and it will be just the start of a new wave of brand new tracks to come to the dance floors, stay locked.

This is the Sambass making giant waves from the Atlantic to the Indic, from Sao Paulo to Tokyo.
